[1]INTRODUCTION
---------------

This is a 36 level megawad that is made entirely by me (Omniplex), it is
the first installment in Haunting Outbreak series but it isn't varied on many
themes that much as I only had the origional texture pack from Ultimate Doom
for this wad, at that time I didn't know how to add texture packs but at least
I managed to finish the entire wad by only using those textures designed by
ID Software :). It took me about nine years to complete due to the project being
being delayed numerous times, sometimes because of my school days and sometimes
not having the mood to do anything at all and start playing other games instead.
This project was updated many times due to the fact that I was sharpning my mapping
skills in order to make better maps, replacing old maps with more detailed ones,
that is also the reason why it took me this much to finish this megawad.
Anyways there are some levels that took a long time to finish (Like a whole month)
and there are some that didn't. The difficulty settings have also been implimented
and I tested all the levels from pistol start on Ultra Violence.
The result: All 36 levels are beatable. This WAD should be quite challanging for
speedrunners and for casual doomers, hope you all enjoy playing it!

[1.1 Compatibility]

Haunting Outbreak should be compatible for Skulltag and ZDoom sourceports.
This wad has some maps that may crash on vanilla doom, particularly E2M7 and E3M9.

[1.2 Resources]

All the textures from this wad were taken from:
      Ultimate Doom by ID Software

There are several graphics that were made by myself : M_DOOM, TITLEPIC, CREDIT, HELP1,
VICTORY2 screen, the ending side-scrolling scene after the third episode, ENDPIC,
and more. The level names from the automap and intermission screens were also made
by myself.

Editors used: Doom Writer, Doom Builder 2, Photoshop CC 2015 and Slade 3.

[1.3 MIDI Music]

All the music used for this wad are mainly from Doom, Doom2: Hell On Earth and
Final Doom: TNT Evilution, only one from Heretic.
You can read the "Map Info" section for more information.

[2]STORY
--------

It is year 2260 A.D, A large high tech city situated in another Earth-like
planet called Ecoteries; made alot of technological advancements throughout the
years such as: Portals that are capable of teleporting people to other dimensions
or other locations throughout the planet. Everything was going well until there
was a group of 6 explorers, venturing through a wilderness next to the city that
contained some abandoned high tech buildings and also ancient temples. The
explorers found something rather unusual, there was something red glowing in
the distance. As they progressed further all the way to where the red glow is,
they saw a red brick temple, there was nothing inside but they didn't know
if it was abandoned.
The explorers carried on until they found a volcanic crater, and a gateway that
leads to an unknown dimension. On a mutant controlled outpost that was once
on Ecoteries known as "Trifire", it used to be a military outpost where
soldiers wield heavy energy powered weaponry and even RPGs. There were also portals
where they can instantly teleport to designated locations for to complete missions
quickly.
Now the entire outpost is occupied by nasty mutants where they can take great
advantage to invade the planet. As thousands of monsters used the portals, they
teleported to the planet, invading cities, and bringing humans into a terrible
suffering.
You were on your way to a ship port were you're employed in, but everything is
silent which is unusual. Broken TV screens, bullets and corpses litter the floor.
Preparing your pistol, you find out what's going on...

Author's comments : When I was playing Halo 1, the level design really inspired me.
I was curious of what levels halo 2 had, and I liked the layout
of the first chapters in that game. This level used to look
really bland and terrible, but as I was going to do a remake of
this level, Halo 2's Cairo station and Halo 1's Pillar of Autumn
came to mind. So, this is the result.

Inspiration : The Beginning of the level from the start of TNT:Evilution's MAP09.
Author's comments : I had no idea what to do for this level at all, until I stumbled
upon a level when I was playing Final Doom, "Stronghold". I found
this level to be cool, and so I got the idea from that level.
The second level of this WAD, short and easy.

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, the first garden in the garden
			tower.
Author's comments : I was playing Prince of Persia: Warrior Within when I was like,
14 years old?. Anyway, it had cool level designs; espeially the
garden parts of that game. The idea of the large garden area of
this level came from the first garden area of Warroir Within.
This level too used to look terrible, but this is basically the
more detailed version of the old, bland one.

Bugs : None

Author's comments : A relatively easy map, the idea of this map came from Doom 3's
Delta labs Level 2A. I was thinking about making a Hospital
themed level, and that level of doom 3 came to mind. So, here it is.

------------|E1M5|------------
Level name : Underground Waste Facility

Music Track : On The Hunt :: Doom
Bugs : None
Inspiration : Doom 3's Erebus Research.
Author's comments : Another suggestion I had in mind was making an underground, high tech
sewage plant of some sort. At first it didn't look too good, basically
it was nothing but bland hallways with a nukage maze near the end. Now
I'm glad I started over and made this, with better detailing.

Inspiration : Big Starting room and upper floor from Halo: Reach's
                        ONI Sword Base.
Author's comments : This is a rather decent map, quite easy to complete. I really liked
the ONI Sword base level from Halo: Reach, got me inspired and this
			is the result.

Music Track : At Doom's Gate :: Doom
Bugs : None
Inspiration : Plutonia experiment MAP05.
Author's comments : The way how this level used to be... you don't even want to know,
just terrible. It was nothing butthin hallways and some wide areas,
then started over and still didn't come up right. Basically I was
trying to make a little similar layout to Plutonia Experiment's MAP05.
Then I finally came up with an idea of a different layout but having a
similar difficulty level to said Plutonia Experiment map.

------------|E1M8|------------
Level name : Cyber Battle

Music Track : Into The Beast's Belly :: Final Doom TNT Evilution
Bugs : None
Inspiration : The Main hall from Deus Vult II's MAP21, hallway with
large columns and red glow inside them from
Deus Vult II's MAP22 and the room with Cyberdemon from
                        Deus Vult II's MAP 23. Wow 3 in 1.
Author's comments : I wanted to make a different mapping approach here, basically a
multi-part level where you teleport between different sections of a
temple. The three levels that got me inspired were all from DVII wad.
So here it is, possibly the first level with a slaughterfest element.

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Dead Space 2 Chapter 13, 14 and 15.
Author's comments : When I was playing Dead Space 2, the last part of that video game
(Government Sector) was really appealing to me. It had a very nice
layout, and I wanted to make a level quite similar to it. It's a bit
easy to complete this secret level, but I really enjoyed making it.

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Halo: Combat evolved, Pillar of Autumn level.
Author's comments : The first level in the second episode, the easiest also. This is
a level before a series of slaughterfest levels.

------------|E2M2|------------
Level name : Cursed Halls

Music Track : Sinister :: Doom
Bugs : None
Inspiration : Darksiders Twilight Cathedral.
Author's comments : This is where the real slaughterfest maps begin, it's not that
difficult to beat. I didn't spend too much time on this level,
but it turned out quite nice.

------------|E2M3|------------
Level name : The Palace

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.
Author's comments : This level is a remake of it's older version, which looked quite
ridiculous. The last time I playtested this level; it took me a
while to complete, and quite difficult too.

------------|E2M4|------------
Level name : Wood and Blood
Author(s) : Omniplex
Build Time : 3 Days
Editor(s) used : Doom Builder 2

Music Track : In The Dark :: Doom 2
Bugs : None
Inspiration : Plutonia experiment MAP12
is inspired from plutonia Experiment's MAP12.
Author's comments : The architecture of MAP12 from Plutonia experiment fascinated me,
and it inspired me to make a wood and blood themed level. So, this
is it. This level is quite challanging too.

------------|E2M5|------------
Level name : The Castle

Bugs : None
Inspiration : None that I know of.
Author's comments : This is yet another level which is a remake of the older version.
It looks quite nice, and not too difficult to finish.

------------|E2M6|------------
Level name : Future Labs
Author(s) : Omniplex

Music Track : Sadistic :: Final Doom TNT Evilution
Bugs : None
Inspiration : Halo: Reach, Long Night of Solace level and Dead Space 1 Chapter 10.
Author's comments : A lengthy level with a big slaughterfest at the end, enjoyed making
this map a lot. Took me a while to finish when I was playtesting it.
I really liked the "Sabre launch facility" part from Halo Reah as well
as the tenth chapter from the original Dead Space, both were visually
appealing to me. This level is the result after being inspired by those
two said parts of both video games.

------------|E2M7|------------
Level name : Temple of Monstrosity
Author(s) : Omniplex

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Darksiders Twilight Cathedral and Halo: Reach, Exodus level.
Author's comments : Another inspiration from Twilight Cathedral, the layout of that level
is so cool. I always liked the layout of cathedrals, all of them.
This is another multi-part level where a player teleports to different
sections, each with it's own theme.

Music Track : Facing The Spider :: Doom
Bugs : None
Inspiration : None that I know of.
Author's comments : This level can be difficult at first, but gets quite easy later on.
It has some elements from the older version, with added details on
several areas. Where does this particular crater lead to? The player
			shall find out!

Bugs : None
Inspiration : The first level playing as a Russian in Call of Duty 1, Plutonia 2 MAP31.
Author's comments : I have made a completely different approach here. A slaughterfest in
a massive open area with lots of space to move around. Fighting your way
up until you find a big portal that takes you to the red marble fortress
			seen in the distance.

Bugs : None
Inspiration : None that I know of.
Author's comments : I came up with an other idea here, a fortress that floats. This can be
quite difficult due to a lot of hitscanners at the beginning.

------------|E3M2|------------
Level name : Mutant Fortress

Inspiration : The "Base" section from Community Chest 2's MAP07.
Author's comments : I don't have much to say about this map really, but I kinda like how the
outside part of the level turned out. This map is quite easy to complete.

Inspiration : some parts from Prince of Persia : Warrior Within's
                        Prison Section.
Author's comments : The frst prison themed level I have made. Looks decent to me, not too
well detailed. This is also the first level to feature an invisible
bridge, like that of MAP02 from Plutonia Experiment.

------------|E3M4|------------
Level name : Sinister Caves

exit the diamond shaped room and find array of columns.
Author's comments : I was really sad and so frustrated at the same time when I was making
			this map, so much delays! So this is how it went, when I was at college;
I had alot of pending assignments and I needed one-to-one sessions to
understand certain things better. Apperently this type of assistance never
came, and assignments continued to accumulate. I was so overwhelmed that I
couldn't take it anymore and gave up the course. Anyway, after a while I
have somehow managed to finished this map finally!

Inspiration : Deus Vult 2 MAP21.
Author's comments : Some parts of this level were in my mind even before the levels before

Bugs : None
Inspiration : None that I know of.
Author's comments : This is the level that took me the least ammount of time, very short
			but has plenty of monsters.

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Doom 3: The Lost Mission hell levels.
Author's comments : Now this level in contrast to the previous one, is the longest one I
have made. I liked the layouts of the last two levels from Doom 3
Lost Mission, especially the penultimate level. There are four sections
the player has to progress througt in this secret level, each with it's
			own riddle and challange.

Bugs : None
Inspiration : None that I know of.
Author's comments : A small, volcanic level before returning back to the home planet. I
remember having to use ammunitions wisely in order to get 100% kills
back in the day when I was playtesting this map, In Ultra-Violence
			difficulty of course.

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Invented with my own ideas.
Author's comments : I'm saying that I designed this map with my very own ideas because I
I have no idea where I inspired from really. Some areas in this map
were remade, and others have added details.

Level name : Environmental Facility

Music Track : Message For The Archvile :: Doom 2
Bugs : None
Inspiration : The part where there's the whole path leading to a big
garden is from Prince of Persia : Warrior Within's
Garden tower, and Deus Vult 2 MAP02
Author's comments : Back in the day when I was making this map, I had an interest on
levels that feature anything ecological or environmental, like
the one in Dead Space 1 Chapter 6. I don't really know why I
decided to call this level "Environmental Facility" as it doen't
really look like it. However, there are some areas that have
brown and gray trees at least. Well, I really love nature and all
			it provides!

Level name : City Outskirts

Bugs : None
Inspiration : Doom 2: Hell On Earth's MAP13.
Author's comments : This is a basic city map, with some building where players can go
to. Not that difficult to complete for a fourth episode level,
nothing special here really. This is just a level I made way
			earlier.

Inspiration : Community Chest MAP07, Deus Vult II MAP22 (The Lava part)
 			and Deus Vult MAP01.
Author's comments : This level is quite lengthy, this is one of the earlier maps
I made. I had decided to add more details to certain areas
			years later.

Level name : The Disaster
Author(s) : Omniplex

Editor(s) used : Doom Builder 2

Music Track : The End of DOOM :: Doom
Bugs : None
Inspiration : The big green "Church" marble area from Deus Vult's MAP03.
Author's comments : This is a very linear level, I wasn't really creative on
this map really. However, the difficulty rises in the
			green marble area.

------------|E4M7|------------
Level name : Great Ambush
Author(s) : Omniplex
Build Time : 9 Days
Editor(s) used : Doom Builder 2

Music Track : Demons On The Prey :: Doom
Bugs : None
Inspiration : The water puzzle area is from Prince of Persia : Warrior
                        Within's Garden tower, Scythe 2 MAP13, MAP21, MAP22, MAP24,
			Community Chest 3 MAP29.
Author's comments : A lot of levels I have inspired from to make this map, most
from a megawad Scythe 2. The map layouts in that WAD were
interesting, and I wanted to make a more compact and
challanging level. I personally found this map to be quite
difficult to complete, but it depends how players can approach
			it.

Level name : The Monster Breed
Author(s) : Omniplex
Build Time : 3 Days
Editor(s) used : Doom Builder 2

Music Track : End Game :: Doom 2
Bugs : None
Inspiration : The Monster breed's interior is from Halo 3's 9th level
                        (Cortana).
Author's comments : This is it, the final level of this WAD. There is a ton of
monsters in this map, in fact it is the level that has the
greatest ammount of monsters in all other levels in the
whole megawad. The final boss battle is not too difficult
though. There is not much detailing here, mainly because
this map is one of those I've made years ago.

------------|E4M9|------------
Level name : Secret Temple
Author(s) : Omniplex
Build Time : 12 Days
Editor(s) used : Doom Builder 2

Music Track : Legion Of the Lost :: Final Doom TNT Evilution
Bugs : None
Inspiration : Speed of Doom MAP06, Community Chest 4 MAP10.
Author's comments : I like how this one turned out, the layout of this level is
quite compact. I was making outlines of each area in this map,
while thinking how I can fit other rooms in the proccess; afterwards
I made the details. Despite it's size, it is a really lengthy secret
level. In fact it took me like a bit more than half an hour or so
to complete this map when I was playtesting it, and i thought like:
"This just goes on and on!", and I lost multiple timres here too.
So this secret level can be very difficult, depending how players can
approach it, so good luck on this level!

-------
[5]BUGS
-------

I have checked and tested every single level, removed all unreachable secrets and looked
in every corner for texture flaws, there should be no glitches in any of these levels.
There are maps (notably the slaughterfest maps) that may slow down your framerate, and
this can happen especially on Skulltag due to dynamic lights. If you have that setting on,
simply turn it off and the lagging should reduce significantly.
