[1] INTRODUCTION
----------------

Curse of Blood is this far, a 11-map project, but will hopefully turn into a 32-level megawad in the future.
I've aimed to make a good-looking, atmospheric and very challenging megawad that's fun to play.
Hopefully I've succeeded in doing this. It's important to note that while Ultra-Violence (probably is)
as difficult, or more so, than Hell Revealed, I've tried to make sure that the lower skill levels
match their name, eg. skill 1-2 is for "casual players" /players that enjoy a mild and relaxing challenge,
skill 3 is for "seasoned players", no map should hopefully be more than moderately challenging here.
And then skill 4 is sometimes extremely difficult. I hope all kinds of players should feel right at home.
I've been wanting to make a 32-level megawad for many years, but due to different reasons, it hasn't yet
become a reality. But this time I'm going to really try my very best to make (one of) "my dreams come true" :P
The theme in Episode 1 is tech-base and partly city. Episode 2 comes with a gothic / medieval theme.
Much inspiration in E2 comes from the awesome game HeXen, which this episode is partly a tribute to.
(But I've still tried to make all maps look original). And then finally, the theme in Episode 3 is the
not uncommon Hell theme :P , but one I hopefully again have managed to make somewhat original.
Like "cob.txt" mentions, all maps can be completed from a pistol start, and intended for. :)
I should also note that the maps was not made for jumping/crouching/looking up and down,
so I recommend you turn these features off.

Well I hope you will enjoy Curse of Blood!

NOTE! There's a couple of new monsters in this megawad. I'll let you find out for yourselves who they are,
but I've made a few changes to a couple of existant monsters as well, I thought it was best to mention
those here. First off, the Cyberdemon's health has been increased slightly from 4K to 4200.
And secondly, the Spider Mastermind's health has been increased from 3000 to 3500, it's attack
can now no longer be interrupted. Also, her splash damage and her alert sound has been removed in
favor for some of the new monsters. The Mastermind is now harder to beat with plasma and bfg but easier
       with rockets.

[1.1 Compatibility]

Curse of Blood was made to be compatible with more advanced Boom ports,
but I can't promise it will run on earlier Boom engines, so I highly
recommend GLBoom or PRBoom Plus, it's also the only engines I've tested on,
but of course, ZDoom and other ports that is as advanced as the ones
I've mentioned should also run without problems.

[2] STORY
---------

MY NOTE: The story is a continuation of the story of an older project of mine: "A Taste for Blood" (atfb.zip)
But you don't really need to play ATFB to get a hang of the story, I will provide a prologue:
(Sorry btw, for my shameless promotion of ATFB :P But I kinda liked the idea with
a new project with a continuating story. :) ) With that said, here's the story for Curse of Blood:

------- THE STORY SO FAR -------

PROLOGUE: In your last mission you took on a computer central, a purification plant, a base near a lake,
a city block, a subway station as well as the city harbor quarters. You emerged victorious,
and you've returned to the Commander General to ask for more work with kicking demonic ass.

The Commander General speaks to you: - You did good out there, soldier! And it's good you came back to me,
asking for more work. The situation with the Bloodcurse worsens by the minute. Heck, even by the second.
We have squad teams sent out all over the world to try and defeat as many demons and infected
humans as they can, but you're known as one of the strongest men we have, and also, the one person who was
the one we first had in mind for this was unfortunately killed just a few minutes ago, so you will be
the one I will send on this very dangerous mission. You see, soldier, when you were away, a surveillance team
returned with reports that UAC's Gamma C-4 base had been infested with a lot of demons, as well as new types
of monsters we haven't seen before, and also, these beasts seemed to carry parts of what, according
to the team, looked like some kind of grand teleportation device.

The General continues: - After a lengthy conversation with the experts of that sort of thing here in the city,
we now feel rather convinced that this is a dimensional portal. So it goes without saying that this Gamma base
is a place we definitely have to clear out, preferably with the help of a strong soldier such as yourself.
Also, with some luck, you can use the dimensional device to get to other unknown places where you can kill
even more demons. Our biggest hope is that there might be some mastermind behind this invasion, somewhere,
and that destroying it might lead the other hordes of demons into disarray.
Another chance is that you will find a main portal into their world, and that destroying it might block
their entry into ours. In any case, try and decimate their forces isn't such a bad idea either.

  - It goes without saying that this a suicide mission, with little to no chance of survival.
But we have no choice but to follow up on this lead and to send the strongest man we have.
You will do this for humanity - won't you?

After a moment of hesitation, you nod. The General speaks again: - Good. There's no time to waste, so you
better get going right away. And I'm afraid you have to travel light as usual, just bring your pistol
and some bullets. Now get going. Over and out!

You do your salutes, holster your pistol and enter the helicopter that will take you
to the first technological base. You say your prayers.

After roughly what feels like an half-an-hour ride, you're being dropped off near the teleporter that leads
inside the first base, aptly named "Entrance". You bring up your gun, cock it, take a deep breath, and enter.

  The war begins...

----------------
[3] INSTALLATION
----------------

Simply either drag drop cob.wad onto a source port executable (i.e. Zdoom or Prboom).
Alternatively you can type into the command line:

  " prboom -iwad doom2.wad -file cob.wad "

If you aren't using prboom, replace prboom with the name of your source port of choice.

Level name : Entrance
Difficulty : Cakewalk
Inspiration : Probably Doom2 Map01.
Comments : The first level is a small and easy tech base, a bit of a warmup. :)

-=-=-=--=-=|Map02|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : In To The Blue
Difficulty : Cakewalk
Inspiration : Partly from a map from Tomb Raider 3 for PC, I reckon.
Comments : Tech base with a twist. Jump right in-2 the blue. :)

-=-=-=--=-=|Map03|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : UAC Base: Delta E-2
Difficulty : Cakewalk
Inspiration : Probably from a few megawad openers.
Comments : Yet another of UAC's smaller tech bases. Resistance continues to be low.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map04|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : Lakeview
Difficulty : Easy
Inspiration : Not sure
Comments : Now the going gets slightly tougher! This map takes place on an island surrounded by a lake.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map05|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : Derelict Factory
Difficulty : Easy
Inspiration : Not sure
Comments : This map takes place in an formerly abandoned factory. Resistance is still pretty low,
but there are a few challenging spots.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map06|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : The Haunting on Newyear Hill
Difficulty : Medium
Inspiration : From a place in real life I once visited.
Comments : Take a stroll up to the haunted cliff! This map is the hardest one yet
and probably with a noticable margin.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map07|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : Simply Deadly
Difficulty : Medium
Inspiration : Other "Simple" maps I suppose. :)
Comments : This one is probably the hardest yet. Expect the usual resistance plus a few twists.
I've also tried to make the architecture somewhat original, hopefully I've succeeded.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map08|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : Courtyard
Difficulty : Easy/Medium
Inspiration : E1M1, E1M2 of Doom 1 for instance.
Comments : This is a rather short map consisting of a tech base-system with a courtyard outside.
Expect a quite easy challenge here. This is one of my favorite EP1 maps.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map09|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : Security Labs B18
Difficulty : Medium/Hard
Inspiration : One room is inspired from Doom2: The Focus.
Comments : You'll likely find this the most challenging map yet! It's a security center of sorts,
you have to find ways to unlock your way forward. The fighting has quite a lot of
trial-and-error, so savegames may be ideal the first time around.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map10|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : Bodum Falls
Difficulty : Hard
Inspiration : Some HeXen maps, also I enjoyed playing Foo Fighters - I Am A River while making this map. :)
Comments : This one is probably the most difficult map yet. I had a real blast creating this level,
which hopefully shows. Definitely one of my favorite maps so far.

-=-=-=--=-=|Map11|=-=-=--=-=-
Level name : UAC Base: Gamma C-4
Difficulty : Hard
Inspiration : CoB Map05
Comments : Another challenging map. The theme is sort of dark and foreboding. I'm not sure that the layout
and the different routes here are as good as they should have been, hopefully decent enough.

Mattias Johansson is a 36-year old man from Sweden. Besides playing and mapping for Doom, I enjoy listening
to music. When I do that, I mostly listen to rock, heavy metal or the odd pop song. I also watch movies or tv shows,
of all different kinds. When I play other games, it's mostly FPS, MMORPG's or sports games.
Besides these hobbies, I also enjoy taking bike rides, taking photos as well as seeing friends, of course.
