[2.3 Compatibility]

Spectrum Descent was designed to run in ports that completely support
MBF21 and UMAPINFO. However, please ensure things like jumping, crouching,
    and mouselook are disabled.

[2.4 Par times]

Spectrum Descent uses par times a little differently. Instead of par times,
there are UVMAX records set by each respective author on their maps. If you
want an extra challenge, try to break each author's best times on their maps!

[2.5 Multiplayer]

Spectrum Descent was not designed with multiplayer in mind, some maps have
cooperative starts, but most do not have cooperative monster placement,
and were not tested for it.

[2.6 Resources Used]

Spectrum Descent uses resources by the following authors:

    MAP01
    Level name : Black Paint
    Author(s) : Ludi
Midi : "Radio Broadcast" by Korp
Author's comments : This map started as an attempt to put as much violence into 5 minutes
as I could while not overwhelming the player. It's a pretty mean first
map, but it's indicative of the challenges seen later in the wad.
I asked Korp to try to go for a hip-hop angle on the MIDI, and he
ended up sampling Rapp Snitch Knishes which was really cool!

                                                                                -Ludi

Author's comments : Something of a throwaway map, primarily made to pad out the map roster with a relatively
easy and agreeable offering. It's my favorite mapping trope, a tiny, interconnected layout
filled with monsters and some more difficult encounters to tie it together. With some help
from Korp's lovely midi, the map turned out pretty good in my opinion and it was fun making
a tribute to one of my favorite TFS songs :)

                                                                                -Yumheart
    MAP03
Level name : Turn To Dust
    Author(s) : Korp
    Midi : "Green" by LPad
Author's comments : Just for posterity -- The sign in the backpack secret is talking about Ludi bitching so much
for the roofs looking jank, GO FUCK YOURSELF!11!!1

I didn't really figure i would end up finishing my submission, let alone make two other more
so I'm quite happy about that. This map kind of started as an experiment with the set, i found
it rather restrictive for the kind of stuff i wanted to make but thankfully i was able to add custom textures.

I initially hoped to make a big exploration heavy town map with a castle at the very back that
you need to enter to exit, but i didn't thought i could make all of that within the deadline, so i
decided to cut a lot and just focus on the exploration and cave side of the map. I put little though
in making very difficult set-pieces since im not that good of a Doom player and i prefer easy maps.
So most of the combat here is very relaxed (for the most part that is, theres enough challenge to get
                        you killed still lol).

Overall really proud of the sweet and whimsy of the map, and its very fun to just wander through.

                                                                                -Korp
    MAP04
Level name : The River Dragon Has Come
    Author(s) : Mr. Freeze
Midi : "Demise Of The Lords" by Mr. Freeze
Author's comments : It's been said that “simplicity is the key to happiness.” Luckily for me, I can only make simple maps.

This map was designed with a see-saw "up and down" progression. The chaotic first fight cools off into
a smaller fight which ramps into another big fight and on and on. I am very grateful for the inclusion of
the Cybruisers, as their deadly rockets and immunity to splash damage makes you engage them with the SSG at
close range. Much more engaging then Barons of Hell!

Some fights are designed with anti-camping measures in mind. Certain enemies spawn behind you when a door is
triggered, for instance. I am not a fan of "hide behind a wall and pop out momentarily to rocket an enemy"
type of playing, so several fights will spawn powerful demons right behind you to keep you on the move.
Other fights involve Archviles teleporting to revive their fallen comrades and you must kill them before the
fight becomes unwinnable. Dickish? Probably, but what fun is Doom without a little friction?

Fun Fact: This level was originally going to be two monolithic styles of black bricks and red highlights.
Ludi asked that all maps feature at least two main colors, so the blue was added and the FIREBLU came from that.
The red sky in particular lends a very ominous aura and I needed the map to entertain that.

                                                                                -Mr. Freeze
    MAP05
    Level name : Rainbow Tylenol
    Author(s) : Korp
Midi : "a sheep for a goat" by Korp
Author's comments : God, i dont think ive ever felt more emotionally attached to a map before,
after the "only one map per person" rule was lifted id figure i give making
another map a try and see what i came up with.

I didnt have that much time for this one so i made it shorter and more combat-focused
this time, the resources showcased here were initially for Turn to Dust
(it was named Rainbow Tylenol before, but i was too lazy to finish the rainbow rocks lol)
but i think they work much better in here. In hindsight, the combat in this map feels feels
like something i would've done for Afternoon, so given that ive felt pretty attached to
"oh my pretty goat" ever since i wrote it, i decided to make a more faithful version of what
i wanted the original to sound like.
                                                                                -Korp

    MAP06
    Level name : PCP Homeboy
    Author(s) : myolden
    Midi : "Homesick" by Korp
Author's comments : My original plan was to make this map only use the color yellow, but Ludi wasn't a fan of the monochrome
idea so I added purple as well. I always name my maps after songs and this one is no exception. The full title
is 'PCP Homeboy (I am a Black Wizard)' by Rowsdower, a really great band consisting of members of
Black Sheep Wall and Admiral Angry.

The most interesting thing about this map is the gigantic structure that sits out of bounds. Originally there
wasn't going to be anything there but I thought the map needed something fun to look at, so I mindlessly doodled
while in a discord voice call with Ludi until this came out. We have affectionately dubbed it the "Sunlust Piss Machine",
which in retrospect would be a way better map name.

                                                                                -myolden

Author's comments : This one was a bitch to get right, even as I'm writing this I'm still receiving new feedback from playtesters
and making not insignificant changes. Even if I'm generally pretty satisfied with the result, I don't expect this
map to be well-received by the community at large, as it demands aggression and rushing in most cases, which doesn't
seem to be a lot of players' preferred style of play. Once again Korp's midi turned out an absolute banger and made me
like the map a good deal more.
                                                                                -Yumheart

Author's comments : this was made in a 24 hour mapping frenzy while listening to the titular song. The frenetic pace of the song made me
want to do a crazy finale. Also, this and all my maps are named after PJ Harvey songs. Look her up! Her music is damn good.

                                                                                -taviow

Author's comments : this was made in a 48 hour mapping frenzy while listening to the titular song (yes I did take a break to sleep).
The mysterious vibe of the song made me want to do an exploration map that didn't take too long to finish.

                                                                                -taviow

Author's comments : A map that was worked off and on throughout January and April, and I am really glad the map turned
out the way it did, as well as it's midi. I intended it to be a penultimate map of some sorts, with
it being very mean in some areas on UV, with it now being a wake-up call for the rest of the 3rd
episode. This is also the only map to somewhat implement co-op in the time I am writing this, thanks
to the help of an anomalous molecular object going under subliminality.

Something interesting about the other purple area that is not the start is that it was going to be red,
but I thought sticking to both purple and magenta, with the occasional yellow was better.

                                                                                -HiRon

Author's comments : this was made in a 24 hour mapping frenzy while listening to the titular song. The depressing vibes of the song made me
real sad and this map came out blue. Also I was mapping for a Plutonia project at the same time so I felt like
being mean with a low number of monsters.

                                                                                -taviow

Author's comments : This is the first map I made for Spectrum Descent, I had the idea of a winding tunnel leading to a BFG and opening up into
a weird cave network before this project even had resources. The gameplay specification for this project wasn't exactly
"no-holds-barred slaughter" so I tried getting more out of relatively few monsters by not handing out out a super shotgun
or rocket launcher on UV, turning the map into something of an ammo-conservation test, where the BFG is the only effective
way of killing chunky monsters. Still ended up with over 800 enemies on UV, whoops.

A plethera of health and powerups should hopefully keep the experience from being too crushing.

                                                                                -Yumheart

Author's comments : A pretty simple scene. This was the first map made for the project
and served as a demo for the textures during pre-production.

Author's comments : So this map was originally supposed to be outdoors at beginning. Turns out, I have no skills
making outdoor areas in doom. So it became an all indoor map. I tried to focus on interesting architecture while giving
the map good flow throughout. I decided to also cut back on my normal monster count and let the map just unfold like it
                          did.

I tried to give this map some interesting fights that were simple but fun. Some fights didn't make it into the final
release, so that's a bit dissappointing, but I wanted to allow the player to experience map at their own pace. I decided
that would give the player time to just sit back and enjoy a relaxing midi.

When I first set out on this map, it was an utter mess. However, through this project, I have been able to
learn a great many things from the other TAC members. This was a real tough one for my skill set at the time for me to
make, and I want to thank all the other TAC members for their criticisms and feedback. I wouldn't have been able to
make what I was able to without your help.
                                                                                -Bloo
